## “My mission is to see every child that comes into my office reach the ability to live a vibrant and healthy life”

– Dr. Bean

## Autism

Dr. Bean uses a stepwise approach to determine if there are any complex conditions coinciding with the Autism diagnosis that can be contributing to mood such as rage, anxiety, to even self harm. Her focus is optimizing the health of the children diagnosed on the Autism Spectrum Disorder.

There are several areas Dr. Bean will look to optimize the health of your child:

## Testing

There are various functional testing that can be done and Dr. Bean will work to narrow in the ones that best fit your child. This will also include blood work to be done with your pediatrician.

## Tests commonly used

MichoSwab: to rule out mitochondrial disorder or dysfunction

Comprehensive stool testing

Organic Acid test

Heavy metal testing

Folate receptor antibody testing

Blood work with your pediatrician: Full whole genome sequencing (WGS), cholesterol, iron levels, uric acid, thyroid panel, full carnitine panel, vitamin D, zinc (RBC), plasma amino acids

Chronic underlying infections

Whole Exome sequencing (WES) – exome. All of the protein coding sequencing + splice sites.

Nutrigenomic testing such as COMT correlated with mood to MTHFR that is responsible for methylating folate

Why is Exome sequencing important? To understand how well your child can be supported and the long term health risks associated with the gene. Genetics determine risk, not outcome.

## Example of what Exome sequencing can uncover:

Angelman syndrome: UBE3A: absent speech, epilspy, ataxia, bizarre laughing, hypopigmentation. This is a ubiquitous disease.

CACNA1s: ion channel for calcium that can be on the muscle cell – can see myotonia with this. Cyclic vomiting can be seen with this

## Dietary and supplement support

Dietary changes can help make incredible leaps and gains for your child. Dr. Bean will discuss what specific changes can be made and may recommend a holistic nutritionist for your family.

Dr. Bean has also joined Dr. Anju Usman, MD’s clinic in Dubai. You can learn more about the clinic

## “Chronic Disease in children is at an all time high. There is not a evident decline but rather an incline. However knowing this, lowering the prevalence of chronic disease in children is an attainable goal”

– Dr. Bean
